It was early morning in Kashgar when I took this photo. We were crossing the street and I wanted to get a shot of the donkey cart so I to capture this image I “shot from the hip” and it came out exactly as you see it here. I thought it came out somewhat interesting.

Although by no means the only form of transportation, we saw several donkey carts transporting people and goods around the city. I took this photo of this presumably Uyghur man on his donkey cart in the oasis city of Kashgar. Kashgar is the western most city in Xinjiang and the western most city along the silk road in China.

As you can see in the photo, the Uyghur nan bread is a little different than the Indian variety. It’s a little crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, somewhat similar to a bagel. In the center of the photo there is a small opening to the tandoor oven where the nan bread is baked. After capturing the photo, we indulged on some bread. Since we were visiting during Ramadan, this was just about the only food we could find for sale during the day. The location of this shop/stand was in Old Town Kashgar, Xinjiang, China.

I took this picture of locks next to the Zhen Long Pagoda in Hong Shan Park in the city of Urumqi, Xinjiang, China. These locks are strewn about the fences, hand-rails, and just about anything around the pagoda. Couples come to this spot to lock in their love for each other.

Last year we took a trip to China where we visited Beijing and Xinjiang, the Uygur “Autonomous Region” in far western China. Xinjiang borders Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and just barely touches Russia and Afghanistan. This is a photo of the Flaming Mountains in Turpan, just outside of Urumqi.
